We are going to spend the next couple weeks taking you thru every change made to your iOS Device. As you know the recent upgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 5 brought about over 200 changes. Some very small and more than likely un noticeable, some only effecting the iPad. Now durning the Keynote Apple talked about 10 we will dive in a bit deeper covering all 200 plus.
We will use Screen shots from both iOS 4 and iOS 5 to compare the changes side by side where we can. We will also share so of the information by using Keynote presentations, Screen casting, and will also include downloadable PDF documents.
Durning the research for this project i have found several list's some appear to be incomplete. We have also been collecting the differences by simply comparing both the devices side by side. We are still looking for all the changes.
Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 04:50PM iPad 2 Security issue Use A Smart Cover and By Pass the Passcode
If you think your iPad 2 is completely secure after enabling the passcode protection feature for iOS 5, then think again.
Apple blog 9to5 Mac, citing a German site, reported a security flaw that allows anyone with one of Apple’s Smart Covers to gain access to the device — giving them free rein on emails, messages, browser history, contacts and any application with stored login information (Facebook, mobile bank account apps, Twitter, etc.).
The flaw can be exploited on a locked iPad 2 by holding down the power button, which will eventually prompt you to slide a horizontal scroll button to turn off the device. With the “power off” screen still up, close the smart cover. When you lift up the cover again the “power off” screen is still present, but clicking cancel brings you to the home screen — thus bypassing the need to enter in the correct passcode.
The trigger seems to be when the iPad is put to sleep (locked), which cannot be done by clicking the power button again. However, the iPad 2 can get around this because it uses magnet sensors from the Smart Cover to lock the device when the cover is on and unlock it when taken off. Since the first generation iPad isn’t compatible with Smart Covers, it doesn’t suffer from the flaw.
Some iPad owners are reporting that the security exploit isn’t limited to iOS 5, and will also work on version 4.3 of the operating system. I can’t confirm if this is the true because I don’t have an iPad running 4.3, nor do I have the desire to roll back the operating system to an earlier version. Although, anyone who is running 4.3 on their iPad is more than welcome to test the exploit and let us know if it works. (Just drop us a comment below, or email us at tips@venturebeat.com.)
Presumably, Apple will issue a fix in the next iOS update, which is due out any day now. In the meantime, if you’re worried about your iPad 2 geting compromised before the update is released, there is a temporary solution. As 9to5 Mac points out, iPad owners can disable the Smart Cover locking/unlocking function found in the Settings app under the “General” tab.
Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 12:34AM All iOS 5 till we get all the answers

I can't think of a better time to resurrect YourMacShow than to help us better understand iOS 5. I know I have spent the last couple of days pulling my hair out trying to get all our iOS devices updated. Now granted we are an Apple Family. we have 9 iOS devices in our Home. So upgrading 4 iPhones, 3 iPads, and 2 iPod touches has been a nightmare.
Dealing with the fact that we also have been syncing all to an old Mac that can't be upgraded to Mac OS Lion. Speaking of Lion why not spend some time discussing the new Mac OS as well. Of course we also have iCloud, This "Just Works" Right wrong! Here is another area we can spend a ton of time with. So YourMacShow is back and with a very aggressive set of goals.
We may even create a new Podcast Feed in iTunes "iOS 5 Help" Now I know we can do better than that. Please Help Us come up with a Name :).
OK so here are some of my 1st thoughts….
Apple Fans have been waiting for this day for months now, and Apple didn't disappoint! iOS % is in my opinion the best release yet! I have been at it all day updating device after device. That the beauty of bringing up your kids in an iOS home.
Once all the iPads, iPods & iPhones were updated the fun began. First was up was:
iMessage
This is a simple idea yet adds a whole new dimension to your iOS experience mostly when it comes to the iPad. Its great when you can start a text message session on your iPhone then continue to text on your iPad. Then there is the new features. Return typing notification, Read Receipts, and on the iPad it is way easy to type! Oh by the way throw in the new Split Key board (More on that Later)
Documents in The Cloud
Now how hard can this be? Dropbox has been doing it for 2 years now. However Apple just can not seem to get this right.
What it does well:
iOS Syncing yup you can open and edit between you iPhone and iPad with ease.
Not So Well:
iWork in the Cloud….Well that really doesn't even exist. You are still stuck with iWork?
Find My Friends
This was a nice surprise we have done quite a few tests with this App and its right on the money. Not sure how often I will be using it. However how cool will this be for younger kids who are bar hoping with a bunch of friends and want to keep up on where your group is. Or your at Disneyland with another couple and all the kids are going off in different directions. Click this app and its real easy to "Find Your Friends"
I really like how you can set up temporary timed tracking events. I am sold on this app and only played with it for 24 hours!
OK So thats it for tonight. I am really looking forward to working on this project. This is like learning an entire new eco system. With Lion and iOS 5 creating such major changes this is a topic we can get lost in.
Please comment early and often so we can all share the little things we discover and Help each other Get to Know Lion & iOS!
